Custom EHA for SIDMA ING’s Innovative AGV Lift Project

Custom EHA for SIDMA ING’s Innovative AGV Lift Project

The Challenge: Powering a Heavy-Duty AGV

SDMC recently partnered with SIDMA ING, a pioneering North American engineering firm, on a new project to develop an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) capable of moving massive cable reels weighing 3 to 10 tons. This innovative AGV Lift needed a specialized lifting solution that was not only powerful and precise but also safe, reliable, and energy-efficient for daily operation.

Our Customized Solution

To meet these demanding specifications, SDMC provided a custom-engineered Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA) and controller. EHAs are a smart alternative to traditional hydraulic systems because they are self-contained and eliminate the need for a separate power pack and bulky hoses. This integrated design is ideal for applications where space and efficiency are critical, such as in an AGV.

During the design phase, our teams collaborated closely to define the exact force, stroke length, and mounting details required for the AGV. Once the specifications were finalized, SDMC's engineers manufactured the tailored EHA system at our facilities. Our precision manufacturing process ensured the actuator was ready for heavy-duty operation.

The finished units were delivered to SIDMA ING's shop in Texas before being transported to Mexico for installation. SDMC provided direct support during the test runs, ensuring the actuator performed perfectly, delivering smooth, controlled, and reliable lifting.

The Results: Optimal Lifting Performance

The new AGV Lift now allows SIDMA ING to safely handle cable reels from 3 to 10 tons with:

  • Precise and dependable lifting performance: The custom EHA system provides the exact control needed for heavy loads.
  • Improved efficiency: The system reduces downtime and streamlines workflow.
  • Sustainable operation: The energy-efficient, low-maintenance design ensures long-term reliability.

This project is a powerful example of how SDMC's specialized actuator expertise, combined with a customer-focused partnership, can solve complex industrial challenges.

A Global Partnership

The collaboration between SDMC and SIDMA ING began at a trade show in Monterrey, Mexico. It highlights how global networks and partnerships can drive innovation and create new opportunities. For SDMC, this project further solidifies our commitment to supporting customers and building relationships around the world.
