Advancing Biosolids Management at WWOA 2025
SDMC America Technology Inc., a Wisconsin-based leader in material handling systems, reaffirmed its deep commitment to the state’s wastewater community by participating as a key exhibitor at the 59th Annual Wisconsin Wastewater Operators Association (WWOA) Conference. Held from October 14-17, 2025, in La Crosse, WI, the WWOA conference served as the premier regional platform for wastewater professionals to explore critical innovations in operations, compliance, and sustainability.
For SDMC USA, returning to the WWOA felt like reconnecting with friends—a vital chance to share progress, exchange new ideas, and listen directly to the real-world needs of operators and engineers.
From Concept to Field: Showcasing Proven Solutions
SDMC’s focus at the conference centered squarely on its patented Biosolids/Biomass Silo Systems. Since our last WWOA appearance, our Wisconsin-made sludge receiving hopper and Sliding Frame Silo system have moved from concept to successful field application, providing operators with cleaner, safer, and more efficient biosolids handling.
We highlighted how these locally engineered solutions address critical pain points in modern wastewater facilities, emphasizing:
- Advanced Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA) Technology: This proprietary, compact system automates and streamlines the challenging process of solids storage and discharge. Unlike traditional hydraulics, SDMC’s integrated EHAs offer precision control, significant energy savings, and reduced maintenance complexity, enabling fully enclosed and odor-controlled silo installations.
- Real-World Results: Sharing successful field applications sparked meaningful conversations about how locally-made systems deliver reliability and performance in demanding municipal environments.
A Platform for Technical Exchange and Direct Feedback
The atmosphere at this year’s conference was highly collaborative, providing a vital platform for technical exchange. Engineers, operators, and suppliers came together to explore how automation, advanced hydraulics, and digital control can reshape biosolids management.
The greatest value of WWOA lies in hearing directly from those who operate the systems every day. Many attendees shared concerns about odor control, maintenance access, and safety during sludge transfer. These insights guide our ongoing R&D toward:
- Simpler Maintenance: Integrating smart sensor technology and electro-hydraulic actuation for intelligent system feedback.
- Modular Designs: Developing compact systems that adapt to plant space limitations while maintaining high throughput and long service life.
Building Long-Term, Local Partnerships
SDMC USA's presence was positioned not just as a display of technology, but as a proactive investment in the regional wastewater community. Rooted in River Falls, Wisconsin, the team stressed the availability of expert, regional support, building trust with local operators.
By engaging directly with WWOA membership, the connections forged during the four-day event are expected to translate into new partnerships and pilot projects across the state. This ensures that the innovations presented in La Crosse will soon be implemented in facilities working to meet Wisconsin’s unique regulatory and operational challenges.
Looking Ahead:
Our participation at WWOA 2025 reaffirmed our mission: to design and deliver biosolids handling systems that combine engineering precision with practical field experience. We thank the organizers and attendees for creating such a meaningful platform for knowledge exchange and look forward to continuing to develop solutions that make biosolids management cleaner, safer, and more sustainable.
